In the above societies I have had the following responsibilities:

• President of the Sociedad de Matemática de Chile during five periods (1982-1985, 1994-1995, 1995-1998).
• Member of the International Council of Bernoulli Society (1986-1992).
• Chairman of the Latin American Regional Committee of the Bernoulli Society (1989-1993).
• Member of the international Committee for Conferences in Stochastic Processes of the Bernoulli Society (1990-1998).
• Scientific Secretary of the Committee for the Year 2000 of the Bernoulli Society.
• Member of the Editorial board of the Newsletter of the World Mathematical Year 2000, a committee of the International Mathematical Union.

I have been the Chairman of the Commission for Development and Exchange of the International Mathematical Union (1995-1998), reelected for the term 1999-2002.
